SUMMER COURSE ON GLOBAL MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH: Setting priorities based-on evidence to innovative solutions Semarang and Karimunjawa, Jepara, Indonesia 7 – 20 August 2023

This summer course offers a comprehensive approach overview of maternal and child health based-on evidence to innovative solutions. With interactive expert lectures and practicing in laboratories and community services, we will discuss the major challenges in maternal child health in the following sub-themes: 

  1. Evidence-based approach in maternal and child health practice
  2. Antenatal prevention to emergency obstetric & perinatal care: Management & delivery service
  3. Re-emerging infectious disease to catastrophic maternal & perinatal outcomes
  4. Environmental exposure, nutritional approach during pregnancy & their impact on the first 1000 days of life
  5. Promoting local wisdom to support community involvement

Course goal:

The course aims to provide comprehensive learning to the participant through the introduction and lessons learned in global maternal and child health within an interactive problem-based learning approach through evidence practice. 

Study load

Fulltime, two weeks including practicing in Live in Puskesmas (Community Health Centre) and Posyandu (Integrated Health Service Post) in the field and remote area

  • Practicing Emergency Simulations and Drills of BEmOC at Diponegoro Simulation Centre and Puskesmas (Community Health Centre)
  • Live in Puskesmas and Posyandu (Integrated Health Service Post)

Several activities of Maternal and Child Health programs in Semarang Municipality, related to the course’s theme

  • Pitching Contests
  • Presented integrated evidence-based recommendations based on local problems in Puskesmas and Posyandu
  • Education trip in Jepara

The course is open for undergraduates (medical students, nurses, nutritionists, and public health), specialist programs (residents), postgraduate programs from UNDIP, other universities, or abroad interested in global maternal and child health programs.
