FK Undip Holds Two International Agendas for Science Exchange and Innovation in Medical Education

Semarang, February 28, 2025 – The Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University (FK Undip) reaffirmed its commitment to developing innovation in medical education and health services through two international agendas involving renowned institutions from Japan. This activity presented a Guest Lecture from Kagoshima University and a visit by a delegation from Tottori University, each of which presented new perspectives in the fields of family medicine and primary care.

1. Guest Lecture from Kagoshima University
On Friday, February 21, 2025, FK Undip hosted a Guest Lecture delivered by Dr. Shiroh Tanoue, MD, Ph.D, a lecturer from Kagoshima University. The event, which was held in the FK Undip Multipurpose Room, was held at 13.30–15.00 WIB with the following topics:

  •  “Extending Healthy Life Expectancy: Insights into Metabolic Syndrome and Cancer Prevention in Japan”
    In his presentation, Dr. Tanoue discussed cancer prevention strategies and metabolic syndrome management that have been implemented in Japan, with the aim of providing inspiration and insight that can be adapted in the context of public health in Indonesia.

2. Visit of Delegation from Tottori University
As the second agenda, a visit from Tottori University was held from 22 to 28 February 2025. This visit was a follow-up to the previous interaction and was designed to deepen understanding of the primary care system and medical education in Indonesia. The series of activities that have been carried out include:

  • Field Visit:
    On Monday, February 24, 2025, a delegation led by Dr. Young Lee and students visited Gayamsari Health Center and Pratama Clinic to see firsthand the implementation of the primary care system in Indonesia.
  • Visiting Lectures:
    On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 09.30–12.00 WIB at Building B FK Undip, a visiting lectures session was held with the topic “Family and Community Medicine in Japan and Indonesia”. This event featured:

    • Overview of Education about Community Medicine in Tottori University, Japan
    • Primary Care in Japan and Our Department’s Initiatives
    • Interprofessional Education in Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University by Prof. Dr. Tri Nur Kristina
    • Social Determinant Health in Indonesia by Dr. Dea Amarilisa Adespin
  • Supporting Activities:
    After the main session, the delegation will take a campus tour that includes class visits, student discussions, and a Podcast with the theme “Medical Education in Indonesia and Japan” which will be published through Undip’s social media and YouTube. The agenda will continue with a visit to health institutions, including the Community Health Center in Jepara and the Diponegoro National Hospital (RSND) on February 26–27, 2025, which will be officially closed on February 28, 2025.

Through these two international agendas, FK Undip hopes to strengthen the network and exchange of knowledge between Indonesia and Japan, as well as pave the way for joint innovation in the field of medical education and health services. “The presence of experts from Kagoshima and Tottori University not only enriches knowledge, but also inspires us to continue to innovate in the education system and health services,” said the representative of FK Undip.

This activity is expected to encourage further collaboration in the future, while also providing a positive impact on the development of better health policies and practices in both countries.
