SEMARANG, 27 January 2026 — Diponegoro University (UNDIP), through its EQUITY Community Engagement Programme 2026, conducted an International Community Engagement activity entitled “Introduction of the Mindful Living for Diabetes Programme” at Rowosari Primary Health Centre, Semarang. The activity marked the initial phase of a community-based psychoeducation and mindfulness programme designed for patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in primary healthcare settings.
The programme was attended by more than 20 participants, including patients with T2DM, community health volunteers, primary healthcare staff, and UNDIP students. High attendance was observed, with almost all patients scheduled for routine visits on the day participating in the session, highlighting the strong demand for integrated mental health education within chronic disease management.

The programme was led by Ns. Ryka Widyaningtyas, S.Kep., M.Sc., together with team members Ns. Lut Fika Daru Azmi, S.Kep., M.Kep., Prof. Dr. Meidiana Dwidiyanti, S.Kp., M.Sc., and Ns. Sri Padma Sari, S.Kep., MNS., Ph.D., and was attended by other nursing faculty members of Diponegoro University. The initiative also involved cross-faculty collaboration, including Kholidil Amin, M.I.Kom. from the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, as well as academics from King’s College London (KCL), United Kingdom.
The presence of KCL academics enriched the programme by providing a global perspective on recovery-oriented care and emphasising the importance of self-care management in diabetes care, particularly within community-based primary healthcare systems.

During the session, participants received micro psychoeducation on the relationship between stress, mental health, and diabetes, followed by a mini mindfulness demonstration introducing safe, simple, and practical mindfulness techniques. This activity serves as a foundation for subsequent community mentoring activities that will be implemented progressively until mid-2026.
The Head of Rowosari Primary Health Centre expressed appreciation for the programme and welcomed the collaboration between academics, students, and primary healthcare providers. The Mindful Living for Diabetes Programme is expected to strengthen promotive and preventive mental health approaches for people living with diabetes at the community level.(*)
