SEMARANG — Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Diponegoro (FK Undip), in collaboration with Radboud University Medical Center (Radboud UMC) and Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands, officially held the Medical Genetics Course (MGC) 2025 on 11–13 November 2025 at the Diponegoro Medical Simulation Center, Gedung Prof. Dr. Djokomoeijanto, Semarang.
Carrying the theme “Clinical Genetics Application from Fetus to Adulthood,” the program brought together four international experts to enhance Indonesian physicians’ competencies in clinical genetics across all stages of life.
Four speakers from renowned Dutch institutions—Prof. Erik Sistermans, Helger Yntema, Ph.D., Bregje Van Bon, MD, Ph.D., and Jolijn Verseput, MD, Ph.D.—delivered lectures and hands-on workshops covering updates in diagnosis, management, and research in clinical genetics from fetal development to adulthood. Participants included lecturers, students, and healthcare practitioners.
Prof. Tri Indah Winarni explained that this collaboration forms part of Radboud UMC’s ongoing support as one of Europe’s leading human genetics centers, assisting FK Undip in developing laboratories and expanding genetic testing services for the community.
“Yang dikembangkan tidak hanya pengetahuan, soft skill, tapi pendampingan bahwa yang kita lakukan (genetic test ke masyarakat) adalah benar,” she said.
She further emphasized that the program is expected to improve physicians’ awareness of genetic diseases, enabling timely and accurate clinical decisions.
“Harapannya semua peserta yang merupakan dokter, awareness mereka terhadap penyakit genetic ini. Dia akan tahu ini ke arah genetic atau tidak, sehingga tidak ada salah diagnosis atau keterlambatan penanganan,” she added.

Meanwhile, Jolijn Verseput, MD from Radboud UMC shared that the course was greatly inspiring, bringing together participants from diverse medical backgrounds. She noted that learning occurred not only from the instructors but also through peer discussions in various workshops.
“So they have learned from us as teachers but also from each other from different workshops how to work together and get to know the patient with possibly a genetic disease,” she said.
The continued collaboration between FK Undip, Radboud UMC, and Amsterdam UMC spans molecular research, genetics, and visiting professor programs. MGC 2025 marks a strategic step for FK Undip in strengthening international academic partnerships and enhancing human resource capacity in clinical genetics. (Public Relations FK Undip / Sara)
