Monday (08/21/2023). Diponegoro University Faculty of Medicine held Summer Course on August 7-19, 2023 in Semarang and Jepara. The activity which was opened by Dr. dr. Trilaksana Nugroho, M.Kes., Sp.M(K)., FICS., FISCM as Head of the Department of Medicine was attended by 35 students consisting of 3 students of Koriyama Women’s University Japan, 2 students of Radboud University Netherlands, 1 student of Kathmandu University Nepal, and Indonesian students of Diponegoro University and Gadjah Mada University. This activity was both organized offline and online. The online lesson was held from August 28 to September 8, 2023 via MOOCs application which was attended by a number of international students.
International speakers, such as Prof. Charles Anawo Ameh, PhD, FRCOG, FRSPH, FWACS (OBGYN), MPH, DSRH, SFHEA from International Public Health Department, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Prof. dr. Reinout van Crevel from Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, The Netherlands and Prof. Chihaya Koriyama, MD, MPH, Ph.D. from Kagoshima University, Japan were also invited to this Summer Course. Meanwhile, Indonesian speakers who participated in the activities were Dr. dr. Soerjo Hadijono, SpOG. Subsp. Obsos from Secondary Clinical Training Center – National Network for Reproductive Health Clinic Training (P2KS – JNPK-KR) and Dr. dr. Anung Sugihantono, M.Kes. from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Materials in this Summer Course including maternal and child health, obstetric and perinatal emergencies, maternal and perinatal infectious diseases, effects of heavy metal exposure and nutrition during pregnancy and the first 1000 days of life, and the use of local wisdom to increase participation active society. This activity, which involved the Semarang City Health Office and the Jepara District Health Office, was not only done by conducting in-class lecture, but also practiced outside the classroom such as activities at the Undip Faculty of Medicine Central Laboratory, and visited health centers and posyandu in Semarang and Jepara. Some of the Puskesmas (health center) visited were Puskesmas Ngesrep, Puskesmas Karangdoro, Puskesmas Halmahera, Puskesmas Bangetayu, and Puskesmas Ngaliyan in Semarang, also Puskesmas Mlonggo, Puskesmas Karimun Jawa, and Puskesmas Pakis Aji in Jepara.
The 78th Indonesian Independence Day momentum was also used to introduce Indonesians’ activity in celebrating it, like holding competitions and pitching contest. The participants were enthusiast in joining the competitions, such as cracker eating competition, marble race, and sarong relay were won by international students.
This series of activities was closed with a three-days visit on August 17-19 in Jepara. This visit began with a sightseeing tour, outbound, and snorkelling in the coast of Pulau Panjang. The activity continued with a visit to Puskesmas Karimunjawa, Puskesmas Mlonggo, Puskesmas Pakis Aji, and Jepara District Health Office. In the evening, there was an official closing of activities at the Jepara Regency pavilion. Also attending the closing ceremony were the Head of the Jepara District Health Office, the Head of the Mlonggo Health Center, the Head of the Pakis Aji Health Center, and the Head of the Karimun Jawa Health Center. On the last day in Jepara, the participants took part in a jeep tour and a visit P2UKM Mlonggo.
