SEMARANG – FK UNDIP supported efforts to strengthen the competencies of Ear, Nose and Throat–Head and Neck Surgery (ENT-HNS) specialists through the Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) Workshop, held as part of Semarang ENT Week 2026 on Sunday (6/9/2026). Held at the Medical Anatomy Learning Center (MAL-C) FK UNDIP, the workshop was attended by 23 participants, comprising seven hands-on participants and 16 observers.
The FESS Workshop provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their surgical skills through direct dissection practice using cadavers. The activity was supported by medical equipment from Storz Medical and involved five instructors who hold consultant qualifications from the Kolegium Ilmu Kesehatan THT.
The event chair, Dr. dr. Dwi Antono, Sp T.H.T.B.K.L., Subsp. Onk (K), explained that the workshop was part of an effort to strengthen the competencies of ENT specialists, particularly members of Perhati-KL Central Java Branch. Semarang ENT Week has now entered its 11th year and is attended by participants from various regions across Indonesia.
He emphasized that continuous competency development is increasingly important for ENT specialists in line with evolving healthcare service standards.
“We hope this activity will continue to support the competencies of our members. It is a necessity that all members must have, because the future of healthcare services will be an era of competency, where services will no longer be assessed based on the class or level of the hospital,” he said.
Meanwhile, dr. Anna Mailasari KD, Sp T.H.T.B.K.L., Subsp. Rino (K), MSi. Med, said the FESS Workshop gave participants an opportunity to perform direct dissection on cadavers. She noted that the workshop was supported by the adequate facilities at MAL-C FK UNDIP, allowing the sessions to closely replicate a learning environment in an operating room.
“Today, we are holding a FESS, or Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, workshop directly using cadavers. We perform the dissection directly on the cadavers, and we have seen tremendous enthusiasm from the participants,” she said.
One of the participants from Bali, dr. Ira Sugihartana, Sp. T.H.T.B.K.L., also appreciated the organization of Semarang ENT Week 2026. She said the availability of facilities, cadavers, equipment, organizing committee, and instructors supported the participants’ learning process throughout the workshop.
“The instructors were able to explain everything clearly and in detail, helping us understand the anatomy, in particular,” she said.
Entering its 11th year, Semarang ENT Week 2026 serves as a platform for competency development and knowledge exchange among ENT-HNS specialists. The FESS Workshop held at MAL-C FK UNDIP also reinforces the faculty’s role in providing practice-based medical learning opportunities and supporting the continuous professional development of medical personnel.
