FRANKFURT, GERMANY – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro (FK Undip) has once again demonstrated its growing international presence through the academic achievements of its specialist medical trainees. dr. Ananta Siddhi Prawara, a resident in the Cardiology and Vascular Medicine Specialist Program at FK Undip, was selected to present a complex congenital heart disease intervention case at the Congenital and Structural Interventions (CSI) Frankfurt 2026 conference, held at Forum Messe Frankfurt, Germany, from 3–6 June 2026.
CSI Frankfurt is one of the world’s leading scientific forums in interventional cardiology, bringing together cardiologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals from across the globe to discuss the latest advances in the treatment of congenital heart disease, structural heart disease, and valvular disorders using minimally invasive interventions.
During the Cathlab Café scientific session, dr. Ananta presented a case report entitled “Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty (BAV) in a Late-presenter Pulmonary Atresia–Ventricular Septal Defect with Severe Bicuspid Aortic Valve Stenosis and Reduced Left Ventricular Function.” The presentation highlighted the management of a patient with an exceptionally complex combination of congenital heart defects and demonstrated the potential of Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty (BAV) as a minimally invasive intervention to improve the patient’s hemodynamic condition.
According to dr. Ananta, the case report was accepted through a competitive international selection process under the mentorship of Dr. dr. Sefri Noveni Sofia, M.Si.Med., Sp.JP(K), who encouraged him to prepare and submit the clinical findings from a case previously managed during a proctorship program in Semarang led by dr. Radityo Prakoso, Sp.JP(K).
“This case is particularly interesting because it has never been reported in an international journal. The procedure was highly challenging due to the patient’s complex combination of congenital heart defects, requiring specialized interventional techniques. Presenting this case provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with leading experts from around the world,” said dr. Ananta.
His participation formed part of the Students Go International (SGI) initiative under Universitas Diponegoro’s World Class University (WCU) program, which aims to broaden students’ academic perspectives, strengthen scientific presentation skills at the international level, and expand global professional networks. In addition to presenting his case, dr. Ananta attended live case transmissions, hands-on workshops, and scientific discussions showcasing the latest cardiovascular intervention technologies and techniques.
Reflecting on the experience, he said CSI Frankfurt offered valuable insights into the rapid advancement of cardiovascular intervention technologies worldwide and inspired him to continue improving cardiovascular care in Indonesia.
“I observed that interventional cardiology technologies are advancing very rapidly abroad, motivating us to continue learning. At the same time, in the field of congenital heart interventions, I believe Indonesia possesses capabilities that are competitive with international experts,” he said.
Dr. Ananta also credited the Cardiology and Vascular Medicine Specialist Program at FK Undip for preparing him to participate confidently in international scientific forums. He emphasized that the program’s academic culture, which encourages residents to present clinical cases in English and receive constructive feedback from faculty members, provided invaluable preparation for engaging in discussions with leading global experts.
The knowledge and experience gained from CSI Frankfurt are expected to contribute to the further development of cardiovascular services, education, and research at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro, and Dr. Kariadi General Hospital in Semarang, particularly in the management of complex congenital heart disease.
Through this achievement, the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro reaffirms its commitment to encouraging its specialist trainees to actively contribute to international scientific forums, strengthening an evidence-based academic culture, and producing highly competent specialists who are adaptable to scientific advances and capable of competing on the global stage.
