TIANJIN, China — Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) is further strengthening its position as a key player in the global medical education landscape through a strategic partnership with Tianjin Medical University (TMU), China. On Saturday (May 9, 2026), the two institutions agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a new era of international collaboration in medical research and physician education.
The visit coincided with the International Symposium on Medical Education, which carried the theme “AI Empowering International Education: Opportunities and Transformations in Global Student Mobility.” The event, held at Academic Lecture Hall 201, International Medical School Building of Tianjin Medical University, was led directly by Prof. Ai Ding, Vice President of Tianjin Medical University.

AI-Driven Transformation in Medical Education
The presence of Undip in China was not merely a ceremonial visit, but part of a broader transformation mission supported by senior leaders and medical experts from the university’s Faculty of Medicine.
During the international symposium, Rector of Undip, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., was represented by Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. dr. Yan Wisnu Prajoko, M.Kes., Sp.B., Subsp.Onk(K). He attended the event alongside dr. Muflihatul Muniroh, M.Si., Med., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, dr. Nani Maharani, M.Si.Med., Ph.D., and Dr. Yuriz Bakhtiar, Ph.D., Sp.BS(K), FINPS.
As one of the keynote speakers, Prof. Yan Wisnu delivered a scientific presentation titled, “Transforming Medical Education in Indonesia: Integrating Artificial Intelligence, Global Mobility, and Oncology Training – Insights from Universitas Diponegoro.”
In his presentation, Prof. Yan Wisnu introduced a transformative framework for medical education that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) with oncology training. The initiative is designed to address disparities in the quality of medical education across developing countries by positioning AI as a key structural driver of educational reform.
The framework also highlights the growing importance of global academic mobility and digital innovation in preparing future healthcare professionals for increasingly complex medical challenges.

MoU Signing Ceremony Marks Strategic Partnership
The highlight of the working visit was the official MoU Signing Ceremony between Undip and Tianjin Medical University, symbolizing a new phase of strategic cooperation between the two institutions.
The Memorandum of Understanding covers several key areas of collaboration, including student exchange programs, joint research and scientific publications, as well as the development of educational programs for general practitioners, medical specialists, and subspecialists.
The agreement is expected to strengthen academic connectivity between Indonesia and China while accelerating innovation in medical education, research, and professional healthcare training on an international scale.

The international partnership with one of China’s leading medical institutions represents a strategic move by Undip to expand its global academic network and elevate the quality standards of higher education in Indonesia.
Through this collaboration, Undip aims to create broader opportunities for future medical professionals to develop strong international competitiveness while bringing global best practices in healthcare back to Indonesia.
