BELGRADE, SERBIA — Jeslyn Tengkawan, a medical resident of the Pediatric Specialist Program (PPDS) at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang, was selected to deliver an oral presentation at the 6th Congress of Joint European Neonatal Societies (jENS) 2025, held from October 21–25, 2025, in Belgrade, Serbia.

Her presentation, titled “Feeding Milestones in NICU: A Cox Regression Analysis from Semarang, Indonesia,” highlighted research on the factors influencing the achievement of independent feeding ability among infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The study utilized Cox regression analysis to evaluate clinical variables associated with the timing of feeding milestones in Indonesian infants — a research effort expected to make a meaningful contribution to neonatal care practices in developing countries.

Jeslyn expressed that her participation in jENS 2025 was a valuable opportunity to showcase Indonesian research on an international scientific stage while learning directly from leading neonatology experts worldwide.

“This research is dedicated to improving our understanding of premature infants and promoting more holistic nutritional care in the NICU — not only in terms of the quantity of nutrition provided but also factors that affect feeding tolerance, such as antibiotic use,” she explained to the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Diponegoro.

She further emphasized that achieving targeted nutritional intake could help shorten hospital stays and support optimal growth and development in infants. Jeslyn hopes her research will contribute to global dialogue on neonatal health and help advance the quality of neonatal care in Indonesia.

“Reaching nutritional goals reduces hospitalization duration and supports optimal growth in the long run. I hope this study becomes part of the global conversation on neonatal health and helps improve neonatal care in Indonesia. Every child deserves not only to survive but to thrive,” Jeslyn added.

The jENS Congress is the largest scientific forum in the field of neonatology, jointly organized by the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR), Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies (UENPS), and the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI).
This year’s congress carried a collaborative theme aimed at advancing neonatal science and clinical practice based on research and humanitarian values.

Jeslyn’s participation in jENS 2025 was supported by the Student Go International (SGI) program of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro — a reflection of the faculty’s commitment to empowering students and residents to engage and contribute actively on the global stage.(*)
